Keto Big Fat Burgers

Cool news y’all! Since I have started strict Keto on Monday, I have lost 2 pounds and already am producing Ketones. I use these test strips to tract Ketosis. I am excited because I went into this week feeling not so great (tired, inflammation, bloated), but am now starting to feel like I am adapting. In addition to the 2 lbs. I also lost the inch off my tummy that I had gained when I was a bad little dickens. You can read about that here. When I eat my Fat Bombs I actually feel a burst of energy afterwards now, YAY! So I went for a run then I thought I’d share some yummy burgers with you all!

I have been craving burgers lately, but I had used up one of my 2 grass fed ground beef packages and had only ground Italian chicken sausage and one pound of ground beef. I loved this combo! In fact, I can see a “Fat Meatloaf” in my future using this concept because the sausage adds so much fat, yet SO much flavor.

You’ll notice that I didn’t add salt to the mixture as the soy sauce and sausage lend enough to make this totally savory without additional salt.

The grill char marks come from allowing the burgers to sear on each side. I like to form them into round balls, then press the middle in a little more than the edges when flattening. This helps the middle to cook at the same rate as the edges and the middle sort of puffs up anyway during the cooking process.

Without too much chatter, here are the lovely burgers!

The Boygas

1lb ground beef

1lb ground Italian sausage

1 egg

1 tbsp tomato paste

1 tbsp mustard

1 tbsp soy sauce (I use Bragg’s non GMO)

1 tsp oregano

1/2 tsp black pepper

1 tsp minced garlic

1 tsp onion powder

Mix in mixer or by hand, then form into patties palm size, cook on medium for 5 minutes on the first side, then flip and cook 4 minutes or until middle is no longer pink.

Recommended served with an over easy egg along side some awesome roasted asparagus mmmmm!!! There are also all kind of Keto bun recipes on Pinterest you can find.     What do you mean by “strict keto”? Exactly how stric to you go? 1200 cals, 5% carbs, 70% fat, 25% protein?

  2. Hey Rusty, I was doing 75% fat, 20% protein 5% carbs and not really focusing on calories, but I did love SparkPeople as an app because they have a percentage tracker for nutrients. Strict “standard” Keto would be what I was referring to.
